Paul Evans (1931-1987)
b. Newton, Pennsylvania
Philadelphia Textile Institute; Rochester Institute of Technology
Evans began manufacturing sculpted cabinets in steel and copper chests in the fifties. He was featured in a historic two-man design exhibition at The Museum of Arts & Design in New York called “America House” in 1961.
Evans supervised the production of his pieces and frequently signed his work, which paved the way for a future industry of limited edition art furniture. His work for Directional furniture, his Argente , Cityscape, and Sculpted Bronze series were constituted of some of the most sought after pieces in the industry. He contributed extensively to the American Craft Movement in the seventies.
